Green campaigners have condemned plans to build a nuclear reactor in a West village.

A Japanese-US consortium is bidding to construct a £2.8 billion Westinghouse AP1000 nuclear reactor at Oldbury, a village near the mouth of the River Severn in South Gloucestershire, as well as a site in Essex .

But Green Party members from Stroud, 16 miles from the proposed site where the existing corroded reactor core is due to close at the end of this year, are fearful of the impact of such a development and all the "glitches" a new reactor could have.
