OBJECT TO HINKLEY C! DEADLINE 23 JANUARY 2012

These notes explain how to register your objection to EDF's application to the Infrastructure Planning Commission (IPC) for consent to construct Hinkley C. Please make sure you do this before the deadline and encourage others to do the same. We need to show the strength of opposition.

  • The deadline to register an objection is by the end of Monday 23rd January. You can do this either on-line or by post.

  • If you decide to register on-line at the IPC's website be very careful. You only get one shot at it, so if anything goes wrong while you are filling in the form - and you've only entered part of your information, for example - that is what will be recorded.

We are therefore strongly urging you to call the IPC helpline on 0303 444 5000 to be sent a hard copy of the form which you can return by post .

  • If you still decide to submit on-line then prepare your responses in advance so you can complete the form quickly and accurately. You can read through the whole form and decide on your answers before filling any of it in.

  • The section of the form which requires most attention is the one that asks for details of the objection you wish to make, with a maximum limit of 500 words. You will still have an opportunity to submit more detailed information at a later stage.

  • Because the IPC rules don't allow objectors to raise any issues to do with nuclear power (as laid down in the government's National Policy Statements), it's important that your objection focuses on local impacts, for example:
    • Effects of construction traffic
    • Effects on landscape and the local environment
    • Lack of economic benefit
    • Effect on local services
    • Lack of adequate emergency planning

Some more information about objecting on local impacts can be found at the Save Cannington Action Group website: http://savecannington.weebly.com

When sending your objection to EDF's application to the Infrastructure Planning Commission (IPC) for consent to construct Hinkley C, you may find the following notes useful.

Here are some key points to refer to. Click Here

Criticisms of the Weightman report as Fukushima are still ongoing as well as Greenpeace's legal challenge of the National Policy Statement so anti nuclear opinion can be mentioned (even though they claim they will be ignored) but be aware that registering other points is important as anti-nuclear ones will be ignored at least until the legal challenge is concluded.

Hinkley Point is not the right site, as its one of the worst ecological impact sites regarding habitats, ecology etc.

There is local experience of public health damage, data from Burnham on Sea downwind of Hinkley. Click here.
